Jinsha International Forum on Oncologic Radiotherapy (2025) Held in Guangzhou, Focusing on Precision Radiotherapy and International Academic Exchange

On November 15, the Jinsha International Forum on Oncologic Radiotherapy (2025) was successfully held at Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. The forum was organized by the Guangzhou Anti-Cancer Association and hosted by Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. The event took place on the occasion of two important milestones: the tenth anniversary of the hospital's founding (2015--2025) and the fifth anniversary of the establishment of its Oncology Center (2020--2025). Experts from multiple countries, including the United States, Australia, and France, gathered alongside colleagues from mainland China as well as from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Under the theme "Precision Cancer Therapy and the Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine," the forum focused on key topics such as precision radiotherapy in oncology, emerging technologies in radiation physics, translational application of advanced technologies, clinical case management, and quality control standards in radiotherapy. Through in-depth academic exchange and discussion, participants explored the latest advances in cancer prevention and treatment while also examining future directions for the development of oncologic care.

The forum was chaired by Vice President Wang Yang of Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Opening remarks were delivered by Professor Zhang Junyi, President of the Guangzhou Anti-Cancer Association, and by President Liu Wensheng of Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. In his address, President Liu Wensheng noted that oncology radiotherapy is currently undergoing a period of rapid technological transformation. Emerging developments such as artificial intelligence, precision navigation, and combined immunotherapeutic strategies are continuously reshaping contemporary clinical practice. He emphasized that the purpose of this forum is to establish a high-level platform for international academic exchange. Through in-depth dialogue and the sharing of expertise, the event aims to stimulate innovation in radiotherapy technologies and to promote meaningful progress in their clinical application.

Professor Zhang Junyi, President of the Guangzhou Anti-Cancer Association, also remarked that modern oncology increasingly emphasizes the concept of "precision." However, precision in cancer treatment is not determined solely by the calibration of advanced instruments; it also arises from profound professional exchange and the integration of clinical experience among physicians. The establishment of such an academic platform, he noted, is intended to encourage mutual learning among clinicians, enabling them to complement one another's strengths while jointly advancing both technological innovation in radiotherapy and the continuous development of clinical practice.

The forum invited a distinguished group of internationally renowned experts to deliver keynote presentations and participate in academic discussions. Among them were Professor Dong Lei, Chief Physicist at the San Diego Proton Center in the United States; Professor Allen Li from the Department of Radiation Oncology Physics at the Medical College of Wisconsin; Professor Anatoly Rozenfeld, a distinguished radiation physicist from the University of Wollongong (UOW), Australia; and Professor Michael Lerch, Director of the School of Physics at the University of Wollongong. Additional invited speakers included Professor Pang Dalong and Professor Lischalk from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in the United States; Professor Evan Thomas from the Renaissance Institute for Precision Oncology and Radiosurgery; Professor Yan Shanghui from Taipei Veterans General Hospital; Professor Fourquet Alain Marie from the Institut Curie in France; and Professor Chi Lin from the University of Nebraska. The forum also welcomed leading experts from China, including Professor Zhang Yongxue, Chairman of the 8th Committee of the Nuclear Medicine Branch of the Chinese Nuclear Society; Professor Cai Xiuyu, Council Member of the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO); Professor Wang Yiming, Vice Chairman of the Radiation Oncology Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association; Professor Shao Xunfan, recipient of the ASHO-2021 Award of the Asian Society of Hyperthermic Oncology; Professor Liao Hongying, Vice Chairman of the Lung Nodule Committee of the Rehabilitation Society of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association; Professor Zhang Qiushi, member of the Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology Branch of the China Eugenics Association (CSCCP); and Professor Liu Ying, Chairman of the Primary Cancer Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Association for Elderly Health Care. Experts from Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine also participated in the forum, including Vice President Wang Yang as well as Directors Wu Xin, Zhou Jiangfen, Wei Xiaping, Zhang Yanjun, and Liu Ying. Together with the invited international and domestic specialists, they delivered thematic lectures and engaged in in-depth discussions on precision radiotherapy in oncology, focusing particularly on the global development of radiotherapy and its evolving clinical strategies.

The forum was characterized by lively discussion and a strong academic atmosphere. Experts and scholars engaged in in-depth exchanges on several key topics, including the translational application of emerging technologies, clinical case management, and quality control standards in oncologic radiotherapy. Distinguished speakers from China and abroad took the stage to present their latest research findings and share extensive clinical experience in the field of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Through illustrative clinical cases and comprehensive data, they offered accessible yet insightful explanations of recent advances in integrative oncology and precision medicine.

Drawing on many years of clinical experience, Professor Wang Yiming provided a detailed overview of the advantages and practical application of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) model in oncologic care. He emphasized that contemporary cancer treatment has moved beyond the traditional model in which a single specialty works in isolation. Instead, it increasingly relies on coordinated collaboration among multiple disciplines, with each contributing its expertise to a comprehensive treatment strategy. Through such close interdisciplinary cooperation, clinicians are able to design more individualized and precisely targeted treatment plans, thereby improving therapeutic outcomes and enhancing patients' overall quality of life.

Directors Wu Xin, Zhang Yanjun, Wei Xiaping, Zhou Jiangfen, Liu Ying, and Shan Changguo from Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine also participated in the forum and delivered remarks during the discussion sessions. Their exchanges focused on several key aspects of oncology care, including early cancer detection, individualized treatment strategies, and rehabilitation and supportive care. Through these discussions, participants further strengthened a shared consensus on advancing the standardized and personalized development of cancer diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to serving as a high-level platform for academic exchange, the forum also played an important role in promoting international cooperation and the cultivation of medical talent. Witnessed by the distinguished guests in attendance, Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and the University of Wollongong in Australia held a formal signing ceremony to establish a joint master's and doctoral education program. This agreement marks the beginning of collaborative training in advanced fields such as oncologic radiotherapy and medical physics. Through joint curriculum development, reciprocal academic visits by faculty members, collaborative research initiatives, and student exchange programs, the partnership seeks to integrate the strengths of Chinese and Western medical education. The ultimate goal is to cultivate a new generation of medical professionals equipped with an international perspective, strong innovative capacity, and solid academic foundations, thereby contributing essential talent to the ongoing advancement of cancer prevention and treatment.

The successful convening of the forum not only showcased the stage achievements of Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine over ten years since its establishment, as well as the five-year development of its Oncology Center, but also further created a platform for international academic exchange and cooperation in oncologic radiotherapy. Looking ahead, the hospital will continue to strengthen international collaboration while steadily advancing precision oncology care, scientific research innovation, and disciplinary development, with the aim of providing patients with higher-quality medical services.
